About Me: My Story as a Songkeeper

My mother said I sang before I talked and I have been singing ever since.

But even though I grew up with positive messages about my singing voice, I also grew up with other messages that stifled my authentic voice.

I was given messages that I was too sensitive, too intense and shouldn't express strong emotions, especially anger.

Then in 1972 that changed when I learned to tone, a simple technique using breath and sound. This liberated my true voice and I have been toning and teaching vocal toning workshops ever since.

I also grew up with singing all around me and know many songs, sacred sound traditions and vocal techniques from around the world.

My formal training has included:

BA Psychology - Sonoma State University, Rohnert Park, California

BME Music Education/Therapy - University of Kansas, Lawrence

MA Creative Arts Therapy - Goddard College, Plainfeld, Vermont

Levels I, II, III in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music

Fellow of the Association for Music and Imagery

21 hours Archetypal Art Therapy, University of New Mexico

I have taught at Southwestern College in Santa Fe, the University of New Mexico in both Albuquerque and Taos, Capilano College in Vancouver B.C. and at retreat centers throughout the world.

I am a keeper of songs, a Songkeeper, following in an ancient tradition of bards and troubadours . When I lived in New Mexico, Kokopelli, the Hump-backed flute player became an inspiration to Circle the Earth with Song. I have followed in Kokopelli's footsteps traveling the world teaching and singing wherever I go.

I teach others how to use vocal toning and other creative arts therapy and sound healing techniques in private sessions, workshops, tele-seminars, my writings and through

The Songkeeper Apprenticeship.
