Dear Friends of Song,

Kokopelli, the hump-backed flute player from Hopi
mythology carries songs, stories and seeds in his hump as he journeys far and wide playing his flute to enchant the earth. I was introduced to him when I moved to New Mexico in 1984 and wrote this chant to honor him:

Kokopelli, Kokopelli
I hear your song with my soul
Kokopelli, Kokopelli
I follow to your mountains...

I heard Kokopelli's call to travel, sing and share the stories and seeds I have gathered in my 23 years living in the Land of Enchantment.

In my last year of travel I have gone back to
Chartres to where my recent book:
Sacred Space-Sacred Sound: the Acoustic Mysteries of Holy Places was seeded. I walked the labyrinth and sang there everyday and learned more about the power of sacred space and sound. My journeys in France have taken to sing at the Cathar castle of Puivert in southern France where troubadours sang in a contest for Eleanor of Aquitaine, the prehistoric Grotte de Niaux, to the Black Madonna in Toulouse, performing recent poetry about swans on the edge of a pond as they floated past and performing in a tiny resonant chapel in the Black Mountains.

After a year on the road I have found home in
Asheville, North Carolina on the edge of the Blue
Ridge Mountains where I sing to waterfalls and will be setting up Songkeeper Apprenticeship retreats.

Visit this page to hear stories from my travels and find out where you can join the song.

Blessings,
Susan
